- Haunting -
In December 2017, at the Portuguese town of Ferreira do Zêzere, I've witnessed a sample of the devastation generated by the fires that occurred at the central part of Portugal on the Summer. It was still possible to feel what had happened there, not only at a more immediate / visual level, but also by the still lingering scent of burning, or the silence that revealed the absence of life on that place. The resulting images from this visit are haunted landscapes: by the phantom of the fire, by the inevitability of imagining the scenic potential of these landscapes if they had not burned, or by overlaying these photographs to the dramatic firefighting images seen in the media. More precisely, it was the duality between the peacefulness felt on that silent scenes in contrast to the heavy darkness projected upon it (for knowing and imagining what happened there), that awakens an anxiety which is the true subject these photos.
